Make sure that you buy the right type of rods. This would depend on the type of carp fishing that you would do. If you want to get your carp from the shore, you would need a light carp fishing rod. A ten-foot model type of fishing rod would be good for you.

Consider the lines. Make sure that you would also look at the line that you would use. It should be strong enough to hold your catches. To determine the line weight, compute the test curve of your rod by multiplying it by five. You could ask different carp fishing enthusiasts about which brands of lines work best.

Look at different fishing reels. You would only be able to find the right carp fishing tackle for you if you know where and how to look. With this, it is important to note that reels are as important as any part of your carp fishing tackle. Bait runner type reels are good for carp fishing, since this allows the carp to let go of your fishing gear and bait. If your carp fishing tackle is weak, it would break if the reel that you use would not allow the bait to go with the fish. If you do not want to use such a reel, then you have to make sure that your line is strong enough to handle high tension from the carp pulling and tugging on your fishing gear.

Get heavy sinkers. You have to choose sinkers that will go right down to the bottom of the lake or river where you will be fishing. It should also be strong enough so that you can use it even against strong currents. The reason for this is that carp feed on the bottom of a river or lake. You have to make sure that your bait can reach the bottom.

Get good hooks. It is best if you would get different kinds of hooks for your carp fishing tackle. This is to have more flexibility in dealing with any situation. Choose hooks that range from 4 to 12 in terms of size. You may also opt for treble hooks, since they have a good chance of hooking carp. However, you have to check the rules in carp fishing in your area, as some hooks may not be allowed.
