Choosing the best carp fishing tackle could be stressful especially if you do not know the basic characteristics of the gear. It is necessary to know the significant factors affecting the tackle’s performance and this includes the rod’s test curve, the rod’s action and the rod’s lifting power.

Carp Fishing Tackle’s Rod Test Curve

The rod test curve refers to the amount of weight necessary to make the rod end to bend at 90 degrees to the butt end. It is the measure of firmness of the rod. If the weight of the carp is 3 to 10 pounds, then the rod test curve of your carp fishing tackle must be more of less 10 pounds of pressure. If the test curve is lower than the weight of the fish, the rod might break off.

Carp Fishing Tackle’s Action of the Rod

The rod action is the representation of the rod’s bend ability. If the rod bends at the bottom 1/3 of its end, then the action is slow. If the rod bends at the uppermost half of the rod from the end, then the action is medium pace. And lastly, if the rod bends within the upper 1/3 part, then the action of the rod is fast.

Carp Fishing Tackle’s Performance

The carp fishing tackle’s performance is mainly defined by the rod’s strength or lifting power. The lifting power must be directly proportional to the strength of the line. If the rod has heavy lifting power but the line is light, the rod will break. The opposite of this will also give the same result. The lifting power must also depend on the type of water where the carp are. If the water is clear, the lifting power has to be low. If the water is turbid due to heavy cover, the lifting power of the rod has to be high.
